About

What is the Summer or Riesling?

It’s all about the world’s only truly noble grape variety: Riesling.
An opportunity to create a better life for yourself and the ones you care about through discerning Riesling consumption.
Possibly the greatest social experience you will take part in in your life, or until the next SOR.

A wake up call – eventually you will figure out what you haven’t figured out before – Riesling Rocks.

The Summer of Riesling is a not-for-profit association with one key objective: to encourage everyone to drink more Riesling. Initiated in early 2011 by Jason Hoy – NSW State Manager of CellarHand Wine – and Stuart Knox – Owner/Good Food Guide Sommelier of the year 2011, Fix St James Restaurant & Wine Bar.

Inspired by our friends at Terroir wine bar in New York City, the Summer of Riesling is a concept borrowed from Terroir’s owner Paul Grieco, who established it five years ago. We asked his permission to help give the concept a nudge in the southern hemisphere and with his blessing, 18 months later we’re growing considerably across Australia and NZ.

We’re a support group for Riesling producers and Riesling tragics alike to help them promote Riesling, the most noble of all grape varieties. We’re a contact point for Riesling lovers and consumers. Ultimately we’re completely biased on the side of Riesling.

The Summer of Riesling has acted on multiple levels to promote Riesling around Australia. Summer 2011 saw us co-ordinate and assist with over 20 Riesling-focused events. We’ve aimed to increase awareness of Riesling within the minds of the market (and succeeded) through conventional, personal and social media channels.

Ultimately what we want to do is help all producers by creating Riesling events or helping you promote your own Riesling event. 2012 presents a shift in direction; with more people in each major capital helping drive the Summer of Riesling initiative even more.

Throughout the Summer of 2012 we’ll be making plenty of noise about the World’s Greatest grape. Riesling!
