Ashbrook Estate

Ashbrook Estate is a small family wine business producing 14,000 cases of wine annually. All wine is made from grapes grown on the Estate and they make and bottle all their wine in their own winery. They are very focused, have no interest in secondary wines (lower price points) and their wines are considered elegant, understated and “underpriced ” by good wine critics.

They believe ‘Riesling is still the best aromatic variety on the planet.’

Ashbrook is now one of a handful of wineries that continue to make Riesling in the Margaret River Region.

Although their region is not “cool” and Ashbrook do not make the (excellent) austere, mineraly style of Riesling, they believe their mild climate allows for the production of more aromatic, fuller flavoured wines with a little more body than the cooler region wines. They are a bloody good drink and age remarkably well with a quarter of a century being an easy target. This year they will be making their 34th vintage of Riesling, which makes them one of the oldest wine producers in the region and possibly after Leeuwin Estate the producer of the most vintages of Riesling in the region.

It is interesting to note that Riesling was the variety that in the mid 1970’s started Margaret River on the road to success with the first national show Gold Medal (Perth – Vasse Felix) and National Wine Trophy (Canberra – Cullens) being awarded to the regions wines, and both were Rieslings.
