Opened in November 2001, this convivial vinous establishment has quickly become part of the fabric of Beaufort Street. Behind the elegant 1930′s façade a long, polished she-oak bar greets you with an enticing & very personal selection of wines, spirits and beers.

The wine list features over 500 references, strongly representing the wines of France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Argentina, USA, South Africa and beyond. A dozen whites and as many reds are poured by the glass – Riedel – as well as Sherries and digestives. A cocktail list includes the classics as well as some signature concoctions.

The cuisine of Chef Russell Blaikie is seasonally based, contemporary with provincial French influences. The daily specials offer what produce is in its prime on any given day.

Eat a few snacks at the bar or make a meal of it in the bistro, set over two levels with crisp white tablecloths and smart service to match. The mezzanine level can be converted into a private dining room for special events and if you really want something out of the ordinary, ask a waiter to take you upstairs to the Champagne Lounge.

Seven minutes by taxi from Perth CBD

Find them at www.must.com.au

Bellevue Hill Bottle Shop – small in stature yet vast in selection and knowledge – wine and spirits specialists. They recently have separated themselves from the pack and have gone rogue. Boasting a lot of love and choice of another much lauded grape Pinot Noir, this year they, with much glee, will be happily building a formidable selection of the queen of varietals: the noble lady Riesling.

They have become known for great service and passion in the wines & spirits they sell, individually selecting each drop and enjoying a free public tasting each and every Friday of the year – in the spirit of this festival they are excited to be opening a couple different Rieslings each Thursday in February.

The Oak Barrel is one of Australia’s oldest bottle shops. Since being founded in 1956, the Oak Barrel has prided itself on exceeding customer expectations through providing an amazing range of boutique and hard to find wine, craft beer and spirits, superior information, as well as excellence in customer service.

Their range of wine and spirit education events exceed industry standards.

Today the Oak Barrel is owned by wine enthusiast Dr Paul Downie. He has built a team that shares his passion and knowledge, providing the best possible experience to their customers. There has been extensive renovations made to the store, including a Cellar Room for hosting tastings and masterclasses, and the Vault – a temperature and humidity controlled room where fine back vintage and rare wine gems are held.

One of the most appealing qualities of independent bottle shops is their access to the finest range of boutique and natural (organic) wines, malt whiskies, craft beers and ciders that are not available in larger shops. This unique offering and the staff’s ability to recognise incredible wines, whiskies, spirits and beers is what makes the Oak Barrel one of Australia’s premier stores.

Find them at www.oakbarrel.com.au

After travelling the world over on an endless vintage, it was the Rieslings of the Great Southern that captured the imagination of Express Winemakers’ Ryan O’Meara and made him finally settle down, well that and the beautiful, uncrowded Great Southern coast line.

Having made world class Great Southern Rieslings for a few vintages with West Cape Howe and Mount Trio, when a quality parcel of Mount Barker Riesling came his way in the 2011 Vintage, the offer was too good to let pass by, so Ryan and his mate Pedro set up their own wine label with Riesling as it’s flagship.

If every vintage was as perfect as 2011 in the Great Southern, winemaking would be easy. The 2011 Express Winemakers’ Riesling from the renowned Langton Vineyard is a reflection of just that. The wine is both austere and textural with delicate lemon, lime and floral characters, it truly expresses the vineyard.

The boys have high hopes for the 2012 vintage and beyond and look forward to the increasing popularity of ‘the world’s only truly noble grape variety’.

Chophouse is designed as a tribute to the old New York steakhouse and references a bygone era. Inspired by the industrial and perhaps even a subtle nod to the rawness of the abattoir, the building’s original substructure has been unearthed.

This 5 star winery is situated in Frankland River, some 360 kms south of Perth in Western Australia, and was established in 1998 by Ferngrove founder Murray Burton. Murray’s faith in this unique vineyard region was well founded. Thanks to its location 90 kms from the coast, between the cooling influence of the converging Southern and Indian oceans, the region has a cool climate that allows grapes to ripen with remarkable consistency from year to year. Delivering fruit and thus wine with characteristic delicacy and clear varietal character.

Ferngrove has established a reputation as a premium wine producer in the Frankland River region, and the winery is fast becoming recognised for its production of outstanding, cool climate wines from estate-grown fruit.

Having been in operation since 1923, Roth’s Wine Bar represents a slice of Mudgee’s history. Roth’s Wine Bar began in 1923 when Bob Roth left Craigmoor (now Robert Oatley Vineyards) at 22 years of age to do his own thing. He purchased the historic terrace that houses the wine bar and originally set it up as a general store that sold, among other things, wine.

Roth’s Wine Bar is particularly well known for being the base for the Home Rule Band who performed at the bar one night a month for 20 years. They were often joined by local poets and impromptu performers

The new owners, Kirsty Stokes & Jason Gaff are conscious of the significance of the history of Roth’s – Together a veteran of the food and wine industry, Roth’s has taken on a new lease of life.

You know you’ve found Mudgee’s best kept secret as soon as you enter Roth’s Wine Bar. There you’ll rub shoulders with local chefs winding down in their whites after work, boutique beer in one hand, platter of gourmet treats in the other. Here you’ll find wine identities relaxing and chatting over a glass of premium wine whilst catching up with the locals.

Sourcing wines from surrounding Mudgee and district wineries, you are likely to stumble across a gem from a boutique producer. Each wine passes a tasting panel before being selected for the wine list, so you won’t strike any disappointing purchases here. The only choice is which variety or blend you prefer. Beer lovers are well catered for as well with an impressive range of Australian and imported boutique beers on offer.

This place is definitely worth the visit – bring your favourite book and settle into the cushion-strewn couch, or pull up a seat at the bar for a lively discussion with the friendly bar staff and regulars, but make sure you set aside plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere at this rare gem.

Come in and see them! They’re open 5pm till late Wednesday to Saturday.

Serious stuff, certainly. Proper fun, absolutely. The lifelong search to appreciate and understand the essence of wine, its terroir, leads us on a vinous treasure hunt , following t he Dandelion’s Wishing Clock if you will, that always inspires.

Dandelion Vineyards are proven plantings that have stood the test of time. We grow our own grapes and source from the best of family vineyards. Our wish is to nurture the unique character of these vineyards and express their terroir in our wines.

We believe that to capture variety, vintage and vineyard requires an enlightened approach. Separating single sites, and even single soil types, vine by vine if need be.

Dandelion Vineyards is a unique fusion of vineyards and vignerons. Our wines represent decades of experience, blending the fruit of our heirloom vineyards with the finest traditions of artisan winemaking. Dandelion Vineyards combination of old vineyards and young winemaker and a couple of mates to help out in-between which we believe makes for the ideal winery.

Wish you were here. Cheers all the Dandy Lion’s;
